I am very pleased to announce that I will be Sculptors Qld's next artist in resident! The Sculptors Qld residency is a three-month program, so it's one of the longer ones that are available. The residency will take place at the SQ premises, at the back of the Old Museum Building site at Bowen Hills. SQ are located in The Shed, a historic shed towards the back of the property.
While I am at SQ, I will be developing an installation that will be open to visitors at the conclusion of the residency. The project is a blue skies project centred around the idea of a deconstructed self-portrait and will be focused on sustainable art practices, such as foraging for art materials in kerbside collections and second-hand shops.
I am very pleased to be able to work at the Old Museum site as a visual artist. The site has multiple resonances for me. I trained at the Old Museum Building with the Qld Youth Orchestra when I was a teenager and young adult, and visited the Museum as a child. The building has formerly housed the Qld Art Gallery and is used to this day as a concert venue.
The Old Museum Building site is on First Nation's land known as Barrambin, meaning 'windy place'.
